A Santa Fe Snapshot

A Santa Fe Snapshot - New Mexico

My journey began with a trip to New Mexico, originally for a graduation, but I couldn't resist squeezing in some sightseeing! Santa Fe quickly became a highlight, brimming with history and unique character. I made sure to visit two iconic historical sites: the grand Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the famous Loretto Chapel.

I'm not particularly religious, but the captivating mystery behind the Loretto Chapel's acclaimed staircase made photographing it incredibly intriguing. If you're unfamiliar with the story, I highly recommend looking it up!

Armed with my Canon EOS RP and a 50mm lens, I navigated tight spaces but still managed to capture some fantastic shots. I was especially thankful I didn't bring my heavier Canon 5D Mark IV and 24-70mm lens – my arm would've been screaming after all the church photography and walking around Santa Fe! Mirrorless cameras definitely have their advantages.

“The architecture of these churches is simply breathtaking.”

Both the Cathedral Basilica and Loretto Chapel were overflowing with beauty and intricate details. While photos can only do so much justice, I tried my best to convey their allure. There's something magical about the warm wood and the radiant glow from the stained glass. And the acoustics? Don't even get me started! I could have played a bajo sexto guitar in there for hours; even a bad chord would sound incredible. But I digress.

Low light was a definite challenge, but luckily my lens could open up to f/1.8. To get everything in focus, I had to stop down to f/8, which meant bumping up the ISOs and holding my breath for every shot!

Despite the challenges, I had a blast and captured some truly great photos. Enjoy them, and I'll talk to you all soon!

Bye for now.
